MONAD
Historical load-bearing pillars reassembled into a sculptural system of support.
These wooden pillars derive from turned load-bearing elements commonly used in European furniture at the turn of the 19th and early 20th centuries.
In the current intervention, they are integrated into a contemporary structural system through a stainless-steel framework.

THE ORIGIN
1980's European Column

Monad reconsiders the question of what a pillar supports. While the wooden pillars carry the accumulated weight of the past, the stainless steel interrupts and transforms this load.
The pillars no longer support space; they support information. Neither fully architectural nor simply a bookcase, Monad emerges as a sculptural presence that suspends the very meaning of support.
